My Endy vs. Costco Novaform Mattress Review (2023)
Posted by Zahra Alia on
Do you recall a time when mattress shopping required a day trip to a department store or outlet? Mattress shoppers would spend hours testing a handful of mattresses, in hopes of finding the ‘perfect’ one. Fast forward 10 years, there are so many new ways to shop for a mattress, whether it’s in-person or online. When researching options, I looked at Costco for the ease of being able to pick up a mattress along with my groceries, as well as Endy, which allowed me to order online from the comfort of my home. Both were convenient options, so the burning question is: which mattress is best?
Considering we sleep for an average of one third of our lives and that a good night’s sleep is one of the most important factors for our overall health, I wanted a mattress that was going to check all the boxes! Today I am sharing a firsthand honest and fair comparison between the Endy Mattress and the Novaform Serafina Pearl Cool Comfort Gel Memory Foam Mattress in medium firmness. Keep reading for an in-depth review on each one!
Sleep Experience
Let’s talk about sleep experience … because that’s most important part. Let’s break it down by comfort and support, temperature regulation, and motion transfer.
The Endy Mattress
The Endy mattress is a fantastic medium-firm mattress. It is cuddly yet supportive! I struggle with recurring lumbar back pain because of poor posture and a significant back arch. For this reason, I wanted a mattress that would support my lower back and keep my body in a reasonably straight position. For reference, my partner and I mostly sleep on our backs or sides. The Endy provides us with the perfect amount of cushioning and contouring, it really is the perfect balance of comfort and support!
Endy’s mattress is a three-layer foam mattress and the top layer, which is Endy’s proprietary Comfort Foam, works to evenly distribute pressure points on your body so you can fully relax. The key word here is evenly. I find that Endy’s comfort foam molds to my body perfectly, hugging me in all the right places.
Normally, my partner runs hot when he sleeps, so much so that he even wakes up sweaty. Enter the Endy mattress. It is hands down the coolest mattress we’ve ever slept on. The top layer of Endy’s mattress is infused with cooling gel and is specifically designed to keep you cool throughout the night. Its cooling technology draws heat away from your body and I can assure you, it actually works! If you're a hot sleeper and your priority is temperature regulation, look no further!
The middle layer in Endy’s foam mattress is the transition layer. This layer is meant to provide zero motion transfer, which basically means, you can move around without worrying that you’ll wake your partner. My partner wakes up two hours earlier than I do in the mornings and I hardly ever feel him leaving the bed. If you move around while you sleep or get up to use the washroom, it won’t be the Endy waking your partner up, but it may be your creaky floors!
Novaform Serafina Pearl Cool Comfort Gel Memory Foam Mattress, Medium
The Novaform mattress is 4” taller than the Endy mattress. It looks like a very substantial mattress and is soft to the touch; however it is much heavier, bulkier, and feels much firmer than an average medium-firm mattress. I slept decently on the Novaform when I remained on my sides, but when I changed positions, the Novaform didn’t feel as responsive. Any time I slept on my back, I found myself placing a pillow under my legs to accommodate my arched back.
Novaform’s mattress is a three-layer memory foam mattress that is designed to alleviate tension around pressure points, providing contouring where you need it most. The Novaform has a slight, soft cushiony feel but I didn’t feel like the Novaform provided enough contouring and support, especially around my lumbar region, where I need it the most. The Novaform felt rather stiff on my back and I think it’s because the mattress is firmer than an average medium-firm mattress.
The ComfortLuxe® Gel Pearl in Novaform’s top layer is supposed to reduce temperature buildup and help sleepers stay cool all night long, but we actually didn’t feel any benefits of its cooling properties. We lower the temperatures in our room to 18 degrees Celsius each night because it is the ideal sleeping temperature and it leaves us feeling refreshed, but the mattress didn’t effectively absorb our body heat. We still woke up multiple times throughout the night feeling hot.
The Novaform mattress effectively eliminates motion transfer. As I mentioned earlier, my partner wakes up earlier than I do in the mornings. While sleeping on the Novaform, I never noticed my partner leaving the bed. I also never felt his movement throughout the night, and vice-versa. I would probably attribute this to the bed’s sturdy and heavy-weight construction.
Delivery/Unboxing Experience
Endy
My Endy arrived on my doorsteps in a vacuum-packed box just two days after I placed the order online! (Endy’s fast and free shipping takes two to eight business days, three on average.) Setting up the mattress was simple: I just had to remove it from the box, place it on my bed, unroll it and remove the packaging. It instantly expanded and was ready to sleep on within minutes!
Novaform
Novaform mattresses are sold exclusively at Costco. Costco is a membership-only warehouse club; a membership is required to purchase a mattress. Since the Novaform mattress is a boxed mattress, I thought it would be convenient to pick up while I was doing my shopping at Costco. Unfortunately, the mattress wasn't in stock and there wasn't an associate nearby that could support me. I ended up purchasing the mattress on Costco's website. Shipping can take up to 10-20 business days but my order arrived in a week. I had to arrange a time for the delivery and then it was dropped to my doorsteps in a vacuum-packed box.
About the Brand
Endy
Another thing I love about Endy is that their mattresses are made and manufactured right here in Canada. They also stand by their products: a 10 year warranty is included by default, and if you register your mattress, you will receive a 15 year warranty at no additional cost (which is great as I intend to sleep on my Endy mattress for a very long time!). It retails at $895 for a Queen and under $1000 for a King.
It’s not just me who loves the Endy mattress! It has over 30,000 customer reviews with an average 4.9 star rating, and their customer service is outstanding. I also rest easier knowing my entire mattress is safe and completely hypoallergenic. Endy's mattress is CertiPUR-US certified, which means it has met rigorous standards for content, emissions and durability.
Novaform
Novaform mattresses are proudly made in the USA, while most of their covers are imported. They’re sold directly through Costco in Canada and the United States, either online or in-store. The mattress I tested has three customer reviews in Canada with an average 3.3 star rating, and is available in two sizes: Queen and King. The Queen retails for $1,000 and the King size retails for $1,249. Novaform offers a 20 year warranty but you must register on their website with your purchase receipt. Their mattresses contain no formaldehydes, no PBDEs, and no ozone depleters. Their products are also CertiPUR-US certified and hypoallergenic.
Final Verdict
At the end of the day, we are huge fans of the Endy mattress and can’t imagine sleeping on any other mattress anymore! It is a ridiculously comfortable medium-firm mattress that is excellent for all sleeping positions, and is truly the perfect balance of comfort and support. It doesn’t get better than that!
If you’re looking for a mattress that is supportive and comfortable, with just enough cushioning to contour you in all the right places, I highly recommend trying out the Endy mattress. If you’re still on the fence, take it for a test drive with their 100-Night Trial. No strings attached. Its cooling properties will impress you and your back will thank you!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for checking out my blog! Let me know if you have any questions about the Endy mattress or the Novaform Serafina, I would be more than happy to provide more details!
This post and the opinions reflected are my own, and the mattresses reviewed (Endy and Costco Novaform) were thoroughly tested prior to an overall winner being selected. Endy provided mattresses for testing and review purposes.
